Dinosaur jungle at Four Seas Bay, Panyu

Does your child like dinosaurs, jungles or playgrounds? Most likely the answer is yes and all of those can be found at Dino World in Panyu.

I tend to play my son jungle sounds when we play with his toy dinosaurs so imagine his excitement when I told him I’d take him to a real dinosaur jungle! He’s old enough to know that dinos wouldn’t be real but nevertheless his anticipation was infectious. And so, one Saturday, we found ourselves driving to Dino World at Four Seas Bay and wow, do we wish we had known about it before! Our son LOVED IT, we thought it was an amazing place for kids and best of all-it was FREE!

Four Seas Bay is a bit hard to describe as it is more of an area than a typical mall although it does include shops, restaurants, cafes, entertainment venues, a horse riding club, a swimming pool for babies/toddlers and I’m sure much more cool stuff but most importantly for us, it has dinosaurs! Many dinosaurs!

Best of all, unlike in most malls, Dino World is outdoor. In fact, you see the first dinosaurs before even reaching the main building as there are dinos everywhere along the main road! Very cool as it gets kids excited before they even leave the car/get to the entrance.

It is very easy to follow the signs leading to Dino World-it is on the rooftop and you can either take a lift or use the escalators to reach the gate. When we visited, we did not need to buy any tickets and the place wasn’t crowded, despite it being the weekend. Needless to say, we found this highly unusual and very appealing! Positive start for sure and we were even happier once we entered the ‘jungle’ and saw (and heard!) well made, moving dinosaur replicas. The ‘jungle’ isn’t big but packed full of dinos of all kinds and what’s even better is that just as you’re about to exit that area, you have two options-either go down the steps into the open-air dinosaur field or stay on the same floor and have fun in a modern playground!

Naturally, being there with a four year old, we couldn’t just walk past a playground. Size-wise it isn’t large but very stylishly designed and we ended up staying there for at least 30 minutes before heading down to a big open space.

This was the best part, without a doubt!Even though the number of dinosaurs was limited, just having them out in the open field, towering over the rest of the area like that made the experience quite special and memorable. For the older kids, there are plenty of information plaques around.

On the same level, there are also other attractions for kids and as far as I could see, everything, except for the horse riding, was free.

Once we exited the dino world part, we needed to find a place to eat lunch and luckily, there are many really nice options there, offering both local and international cuisine. We ended up having ramen in a tiny eatery with a small tree in the middle, very cool, but the place that intrigued me the most was a cafe hidden away at the end of a corridor-it looked a bit like a cave from the outside and inside it resembled a room straight out of a Harry Potter movie!

Afterwards we strolled around to check the rest of the area out and we were impressed with the amount of independent businesses, such as bakeries, dessert shops and bars. There was live music performed in the main square which made the walk even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend Four Seas Bay to anyone with kids even remotely interested in dinosaurs. We’ll return for sure!

Do you know of other places in Guangzhou, which would be suitable for young dinosaur fans?
