Ah Baiyun mountain, to many the No.1 attraction in Guangzhou. Most, if not all, of the city’s citizens (and every tourist) have enjoyed hiking its many trails and experiencing its multiple attractions but I doubt you’ve been to a super quiet, hidden away oasis of tranquility right at the foot of this popular mountain range. Cloud Pathway(云道)-a beautiful urban hiking trail in central GZ

With this perfect weather, don’t you just want to be outside all the time? I know I do! So join me on a hike along the Cloud Pathway, which runs from Yuexiu Park all the way to Baiyun mountain. Its elevated sections are something else and the entire trail is ideal for a sunny morning (or afternoon) with your kids, walking and having fun in the multiple parks along the way.

Dongshankou-the most charming neighbourhood in Guangzhou

Bring your creative teens to this mekka for young fashionistas. A historical area, which gained new vitality thanks to becoming one of the ‘it’ spots among young locals. Get lost in the countless alleyways admiring Western villas, popping in to beautiful boutiques, trendy shops, unique cafes and funky eateries.

Water taxis, cable car or a sightseeing bus? Take kids on a fun ride around Guangzhou!

It is HOT, it is HUMID, you’re melting as soon as you step out the door, your kid looks like they’ve lost a water gun fight after a mere 5min outside and you’ve been to all the soft play/indoor entertainment areas around. Your kids are going nuts at home but GZ weather doesn’t seem to cooperate with parents at this time of year. Sure, you could go to one of MANY indoor attractions or you could turn getting there into a fun adventure in itself!

Guangdong Museum and kids

Wouldn’t we all like for our kids to enjoy museums, stroll around calmly while admiring the exhibitions, and more importantly, allowing us to do just that? Naive? 100% but one can dream! Some museums do a great job at engaging younger visitors. Others not so much and you end up spending more time being whined at and chasing your kids around than actually looking at artefacts. Is it worth bringing kids to Guangdong Museum then?

Weekend getaway: Flower fields and a ‘secret’ waterfall in Huadu

You are unlikely to find any information about this place but if you want your kids to see a very tall waterfall, sip fresh coconut water with their feet literally in the lake and have fun in the flower fields then the places I mention might just be your next weekend destination. Weekend Getaway: Stream tracing and a magical forest in Zengcheng

If you feel like a quick getaway to the countryside and you crave fresh mountain air but can’t face a 2 hour drive or don’t have a car, Guangzhou’s outer districts of Huadu, Conghua, Huangpu and Zengcheng have plenty to offer. It is arguably Zengcheng’s farms and waterfalls that are the easiest to reach by public transport though.

A quiet and picturesque spot for a family walk-Yunxi Ecological Garden

You need to take the kids out but don’t just want to go to a nearby park or the beautiful, but super busy on weekends, Baiyun mountain as all you want to do is chill. If you want to go somewhere different and tranquil but easy to reach, then this is the spot! Stunning, landscaped gardens, educational stations and a really cool café await. Especially recommended to those with kids, who prefer calm environments.

No.1 spot for cycling with kids in Guangzhou

Many parks in Guangzhou don’t allow cycling but Dafushan Forest Park is the opposite!It’s my absolute favourite, FREE cycling and picnic spot in Guangzhou! Yes, it takes a while to reach it but the place is so worth it! Beautiful landscapes and plenty of fun is guaranteed at this ‘southern lung’ of Guangzhou.
